Born and raised in Honolulu, Steve Case became Hawaii's first high tech billionaire entrepreneur in 1999. He was a pioneer in making the Internet a part of everyday life. AOL was the first Internet company to go public, and one of the best performing stocks of the 1990s, delivering a 11,616% return to shareholders. AOL had 30 million subscribers in 2001. At its peak, nearly half of all Internet users in the United States used AOL.

Robert R. Taira opened Robert's Bakery in Hilo in 1950. He expanded to Honolulu in 1963 with a new bakery on King Street and changed the name to King's Bakery. Robert Taira expanded his sweetbread baked goods to the West Coast. In 1977 he built a new factor in Torrance, California.

In 2010 King's Hawaiian Bakery expanded to the East Coast with a third factory built in Oakwood, Georgia. King's Hawaiian Bread is sold at grocery stores nationwide and at Walmart and Target. King's Bakery employs
250 people and has annual sales of $210 million.

Pat Saiki, head of the US Small Business Administration.
Patricia Saiki was the first person from Hawaii to head a federal agency. In 1991, she was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to be Administrator of the US Small Business Administration with 4,000 employees in more than 100 offices.
Pat Saiki is credited for taking the SBA's newly created Women Business Center program and expanding it to almost every state. WBCs offers counseling and seminars to help women start their own small businesses.
Republican Congresswoman Pat Saiki served in the United States Congress from 1986-1991, where she represented the Honolulu Congressional District.
